Weekly Challenge - Put God First

Weekly Challenge – Put God First

The challenge for this week is “Put God First”.

This is part of a yearly series “Weekly Challenges to Get Closer to God”.  There are 26 challenges for 1 year. You prayerfully concentrate on 1 task for 1 week (every other week) and see what happens.

Jesus should be first in our lives, yet that can be hard to do. We tend to want our way and do things that make ourselves happy and satisfied. But we often put family, possessions, and activities before the Lord. We want to live our lives our way.

But there shouldn’t be anything you are unwilling to give up for Jesus. Everything belongs to him. You wouldn’t have any of these things if it wasn’t for the Lord anyway.

We should be concentrating on living the Lord’s will, not ours. When we are born again, our selfish life dies, and our new life following Christ begins.

So for one week, concentrate on putting the Lord first on everything you do. Give Jesus the steering wheel on every decision and every action for the entire week and see what happens. See how it brings you closer to God.

Here are some Bible verses to help motivate you.

Galatians 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Matthew 6:9-10  “This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,  your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:33    But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Hebrews 12:2   fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Matthew 22:37-38   Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’   This is the first and greatest commandment.

James 4:3   When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Psalms 89:15  Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
