Very Old Barren Women Had a Child
There are two married couples in the Bible who could not have children until God made it miraculously happen. They were very old and well past the age of childbearing.
The two married couples are:
Abraham & Sarah had a son named Isaac.
Zacharias & Elizabeth had a son named John (the Baptist).
Both Women were Very Old:
Both Sarah and Elizabeth were so old that it had been decades since they produced that nourishing menstrual blood for a baby to live off of and grow. It had to have been an absolute miracle from God.
Both Married Couples were Visited by an Angel:
One or more Angels of the Lord visited both of the married couples before they got pregnant. The Angel(s) told them they would have a son and what that son’s purpose would be.
God’s Promise to Abraham:
The Lord promised Abraham that he would become a great and powerful nation through the son that Sarah will have (Scriptures 1. Abraham & Sarah had a son named Isaac). So, Sarah had Isaac; Isaac had Jacob; and Jacob had 12 sons (the 12 tribes of Israel).
Genesis 18:18-19 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”
John the Baptist was Born – Zacharias and Elizabeth:
Zacharias and Elizabeth would have a son who would go before the Lord (Jesus) to prepare the people for the Messiah’s arrival (Scriptures 2. Zacharias & Elizabeth had a son named John). Their son, John the Baptist, did just that.
Luke 1:16-17 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
Conclusion – Very Old Barren Women Had a Child:
As you can imagine, both couples had a hard time believing that they could have a child in their old age. But nothing is impossible with God. God used an impossible situation to perform an awesome miracle for his kingdom.
