Jesus Healed Possessed Son
Jesus did a lot of healing during his ministry. People came from all over and would line up waiting to be healed by him.
Some Healings Had a Lesson to Learn:
Some of the healings had a lesson for us to learn. The healing of the father’s possessed son is certainly one of them.
The Father with a Possessed Son:
A father had a son that was possessed by an evil spirit. The son had been robbed of speech. Whenever the evil spirit seized him, it would throw him to the ground. He would foam at the mouth, gnash his teeth, and become rigid. The son had been possessed since childhood.
Father Brought Son to Jesus:
In desperation, the father brought his son to Jesus. He first came upon Jesus’ disciples and they tried to drive the evil spirit out of the son, but failed.
Then Jesus walked in and asked what was going on? The father explained to Jesus about his son’s condition of being possessed and that the disciples were unable to drive the evil spirit out. The father asked Jesus “If you can do anything, please take pity on us”. Jesus responded to the father, “ ‘If you can’? Everything is possible for one who believes.” The boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”.
Jesus Drove Out Evil Spirit:
Jesus drove the evil spirit out of the son (Scriptures – Mark 9:14-29, Matthew 17:14-20, Luke 9:37-43). The son yelled a shriek and convulsed and the spirit came out. He wasn’t moving and people thought he was dead. But Jesus helped him up and he stood up.
Disciples Ask Why They Couldn’t:
The disciples asked Jesus why they couldn’t drive the evil spirit out. We see a different answer to that question in the book of Mark and Matthew. In the book of Mark, Jesus answered, “This kind can come out only by prayer. ” But in the book of Matthew, Jesus answered “Because you have so little faith” (Scriptures – Mark 9:14-29, Matthew 17:14-20, Luke 9:37-43).
Conclusion:
Even though different authors remembered the incident a little differently, one thing is certain. If we pray in faith, nothing is impossible. As the father of the possessed son did, we should ask God to help us with our unbelief and prayer in the fulness of faith.
