A Prayer for Direction

Direction & Guidance

Dear Lord,

You are truly my Lord.  I will follow you wherever you lead.  For you are not only my God, but you are my counselor, friend, and father.  I can always count on you.  I never have to worry if you’re being deceitful or if you just got it wrong.   For you are a holy, righteous, all knowing, omnipotent God.

Here I am again, needing your direction and guidance.   I have a decision to make.  Which way do I go?   Teach me Lord what is best and lead me (Isaiah 48:17).

Your Light: (Prayer for Direction & Guidance)

Shine your light on the path I should follow (Psalms 17:5-6, Psalm 119:105, Psalms 27:11, John 8:12).  Please make the path clear and brilliant before me.

On My Own: (Prayer for Direction & Guidance)

Making decisions like this on my own usually doesn’t work out well.  I don’t know what you know.  I don’t know what the future will bring or what consequences will happen.   Only you know the right way to go and I so desperately need your guidance.

It seems for the most part, that you want me to make my own decisions and choose my own path.   But not without first bringing my thoughts to you in prayer.   I’m so grateful that you, so many times, have turned me around when I was going the wrong way.

Give Wisdom: (Direction & Guidance)

Thank you for giving us wisdom when we ask for it (James 1:5).   Sometimes it doesn’t seem like you answer our prayer for wisdom.  Sometimes we just feel lost.  But you always come through in your timing and your way.

Your Will Not Mine:

May your will be done in this and every situation.  Even if it is the direction I would not have chosen, I will follow you.    May you go before me and be with me (Acts 2:25-28) in all my journeys.   May my heart be filled with peace and joy wherever you lead.

I pray in that beautiful name of Jesus, my Lord.

Amen.
