Dear Lord, (A Prayer for Fear)
Thank you:
Thank you for always being what I need. Be it a counselor, protector, father, teacher, or just someone who will listen; you are always faithful with these things and more. Thank you for being involved and being concerned with my so very small life and for always being with me.
A Prayer for Fear:
I come to you with a problem of sometimes letting fear get in the way of living as I should. Sometimes fear gets a hold of me and directs my way of life and it affects my decisions and my health (mental, physical, and spiritual).
I don’t want to be like the Israelites who let fear control their actions (Numbers 13:17-33 through Numbers 14:1-35). Their fear was so strong it caused them to forget you! I admit that can happen to me. When something that needs immediate attention gets ahold of my fear, I can forget you are with me and fear takes over. I completely forget you at that moment.
.
Help me to be like the next generation of Israelites, who trusted you and stood up to their fears, knowing you were with them (Deuteronomy 20:1, Joshua 4:12-13). They even had the Jordan river blocking their way. But they remembered how you opened the Red Sea and trusted you would also open the Jordan, as you said you would, so they could walk through (Joshua 4:22-23). But first, they had to get past their fear and make the leap of faith, which they did.
It’s easy to get caught up in this world. There are times when several bad situations get thrown at me all at once. And sometimes it’s just one very stressful urgent thing that puts fear in the driver’s seat and you get put in the back.
It can even be a good thing. Something good can be in my reach, but I must get past the fear and take the leap of faith (Mark 4:35-40) in order to reach it.
When fear starts to settle in, I pray I will remember you and receive your peace (John 14:27). Please help me to be open to receive whatever you have for me.
Give Thanks When in Fear:
You say in your Word (1 Thessalonians 5:18, Philippians 4:6) to give you thanks in every situation. I’m going to try to do that. Not thanking you for the stressful situation, but giving thanks for the good things you have done. That will help me remember your faithfulness and will weaken any fear.
Forgive me for my weaknesses that hold me back from being the person you want me to be. Please be the light on my path. And as I walk with you, I will get stronger (Hebrews 13:6).
I am so grateful to pray in that sweet, glorious name of Jesus, my Lord.
Amen
