Can We Lose Our Salvation?

Can we lose our salvation? No, if you are truly saved and born again, you cannot lose your salvation.

We can not lose salvation, however, many believe they are saved, but may not be. Just because you say the words that you believe Christ died for your sins and rose from the dead and ask for forgiveness of your sins, doesn’t necessarily make you saved. You must mean it in your heart and be born again. Christ lives in your heart. Your heart becomes His temple. Nothing can separate you from God because He is a part of you.

Let’s look at some scripture referring salvation:

John 3:3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”

1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s spirit lives in you?

John 10:9 (Jesus said) “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and out, and find pasture.”

Luke 13:24-28 (Jesus said) “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.”

Matthew 7:22-23 (Jesus said) “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons, and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”

Conclusion – can we lose our salvation?:

Even those who go to church regularly and perform miracles in Jesus’ name, may not be saved? That’s pretty scary.

We need to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Therefore, He must know us intimately. We have to open that door and let Him into our hearts. Let Jesus change us and use us for His glory. We must be born again (see page “What is a Born Again Christian?“).
