Praying with Scriptures Psalms 23:1-4

Psalms 23:1-4

The Lord is my shepherd;

Thank you Lord for being my shepherd.   You keep me in the right place.  If I stray away, you come get me and bring me back.   You lead me in what direction to go, and I know you will never lead me wrong.  And you protect me from predators or temptations that want to take me away.  You use me for your glory.  You feed me with your word.  And care for me.  You watch over me.  Indeed, you are truly my shepherd.

I shall not want.

I will not long for things in this world.  This world is temporary and short.  I will keep my eyes on you.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

You help me to be still before you so I can dwell in your beautiful presence.  I find calmness and refreshment there.

He leadeth me beside the still waters.

You give me peace and you settle my nerves. When I am anxious, I can call out to you and you bring me to a place of rest and quiet.  Even during a horrible storm in my life, you give me peace.

He restoreth my soul:

You restore my soul every time I feel your presence.  My faith is continually strengthened as I walk with you.

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

The more I follow you, the more righteousness grows.  I know in this world; I can never be as righteous as you.  And I know that any righteousness I have is because you are in me, leading me.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;

I can go through anything without fear if you are with me.  Even facing death does not bring fear.  You go with me through everything and fear fades away.

Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

It brings great comfort to know that you are with me.  Not only are you with me, but you care for me and lead me.  You help me.  Sometimes your rod and staff is in the form of conviction, but only when I need it.  Knowing that you are taking care of me and watching over me brings much comfort and peace.

In my Lord’s and my shepherd’s beautiful name of Jesus.  Amen.
