Weekly Challenge – Be Generous in Your Giving

The challenge for this week is “Be Generous in Your Giving”.

This is part of a yearly series “Weekly Challenges to Get Closer to God”.  There are 26 challenges for 1 year. So, you prayerfully concentrate on 1 task for 1 week (every other week) and see what happens.

Being generous in your giving has many forms.  It can be giving of your time, services, encouragement, knowledge, kindness, and yes – monetary.  You can’t give what you do not have.  But we all have something to give.

We should give with a cheerful heart.  It really is better to give than to receive.  It can fill you with joy.  However, don’t give so you will look good or feel better.  Don’t make it a selfish thing.

So for one week, be more generous than usual in your giving.    Prayerfully give with a cheerful heart all week.   And see what happens.  See how you get closer to God.

Here are some Bible verses to motivate you.

2 Corinthians 9:7-9    Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.   And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.   As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”

Luke 6:38  Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Proverbs 11:24-25  One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.  A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

Proverbs 19:17  Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.

Acts 20:35    In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
