Weekly Challenge – Don’t Covet but Be Content

The challenge for this week is “Don’t Covet but Be Content”.

This is part of a yearly series “Weekly Challenges to Get Closer to God”.  There are 26 challenges for 1 year. You prayerfully concentrate on 1 task for 1 week (every other week) and see what happens.

Don’t covet but be content.  When we look at what other people have, we can become envious.  The grass is always greener on the other side.

Coveting and envying never brings joy.  You will never have enough.  Be grateful for what you have.  Don’t look at what other people have.  It doesn’t matter.  Be content with what God has given you.

As long as you have food to eat and a place to lay your head, you are experiencing life as God intended.  Bad times will pass.  Those others that you envy; they have bad times too.

So, spend the next week concentrating on being content with your life.  No matter where you are at, allow God to give you peace and contentment continually for one week and see what happens.  See how it brings you closer to God.

Here are some Bible verses to motivate you.

Hebrews 13:5  Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Philippians 4:10-13   I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it.  I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

1 Timothy 6:6-7   But godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

Proverbs 14:30   A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

Exodus 20:17   “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

James 3:16   For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
